A well-balanced side after IPL 9 auction
Sunrisers Hyderabad were among the smart pickers during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2016 auction at Bengaluru on Saturday. While 351 players went under the hammer, only a total of 91 managed to bag an IPL contract and out of those, 10 were taken into the Orange Army. Hyderabad, coached by Tom Moody did not chase just the big stars of the game, with the inclusion of the likes of Deepak Hooda, Aditya Tare, Vijay Shankar and Abhimanyu Mithum, they exhibited that the side was looking for a well-balanced team and not just the one with iconic names which they anyway had, going into the IPL 9 auction.
The blend of young bloods along with the experienced cricketers in David Warner, Shikhar Dhawan, Trent Boult and Kane Williamson, Sunrisers Hyderabad surely will give a tough time to the other sides in the upcoming ninth edition of IPL. Sunrisers Hyderabad made two more important buys in IPL 2016’s auction when they won the bids for Yuvraj Singh and Ashish Nehra. Both the veterans recently made a comeback during India’s tour of Australia earlier in the year. Yuvraj walked in to bat just once in those three matches and that one knock happened when India needed its most experienced player to stick around till the end. However, he made use of the opportunities with the ball, taking two wickets in crucial times.
Meanwhile, although Nehra picked just two wickets in those three matches, he did manage to keep the opposition quiet for most of the times. He did have a few bad overs which spoilt his economy, he eventually returned in the match with better overs. Coming back to Sunrisers Hyderabad, in Trent Boult, Nehra, Ashish Reddy, Karn Sharma, Mustafuzir Rehman, Siddharth Kaul, Ben Cutting, Moises Henriques, Abhimanyu Mithun, Barinder Sran, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Vijay Shankar,Hyderabad a variety in their pace department. Meanwhile, Yuvraj, Kane Williamson, Deepak Hooda and Bipul Sharma strengthen their spin attack.
Sunrisers Hyderabad easily will have one of the best top-orders in IPL 2016 in Warner, Dhawan, Williamson along with the fresh talents of Aditya Tare, Naman Ojha, KL Rahul and T Suman. While Tare leads Mumbai in the domestic circuit, Rahul is one of the key players of Karnataka with a little experience in the international level. Suman previously has played for Hyderabad, so he will be well aware of the home conditions. Jumping to the middle-order options, the likes of Ricky Bhui, Eoin Morgan, Rahman, Yuvraj Singh, Deepak Hooda and Bipul Sharma are great options for those spots.
Hyderabad will face a problem in choosing their combination of the overseas players. The four foreigners who are likely to make it to the playing XI will be Warner, skipper of Hyderabad, Kane Williamson, Trent Boult and Henriques. Meanwhile, VVS Laxman, mentor of Hyderabad is very happy with Hyderabad’s auction. “Very satisfied with today’s auction. Feel we got a balanced side. Its now upto us 2 play to our potential,” (sic) he tweeted.
Sunrisers managed to reach the playoffs in their first edition in 2013, they failed to do so in the next two years. With a side as talented as this one, with the perfect melange of experience and local talents, Hyderabad should one of the top sides of IPL 2016.
